Sunday December 31st, Lily was baptized at the end of our New Year’s Eve worship and brunch services. Join us in praying for Lily as she takes this step in her faith, and read her baptism story below.
“My brother and I were born and raised in Colorado by our mother, and we were raised Buddhist. In summation the belief was that the quality of one’s life and future rests solely on the individual. This was a concept I was unable to understand at a young age, especially with the amount of hardships and loss I endured. In middle school my mother was diagnosed with cancer, and I became her caretaker. By the time I was 15 I had lost both my parents, and moved in with my sister Sarah here in Rhode Island. When I first moved here I was broken, immature, and not ready for life. My sister helped me pick up the pieces and become the young woman I am today. Since then I have graduated high school, college, and now have a fulfilling career.
Once the dust settled from finishing school and falling into a 9-5 work week, I felt that something was missing in my life. I have been an inconsistent holiday attendee here at BridgePointe since my family has been attending weekly the last 4-5 years. There was an event in the Fall of 2022 that I was helping watch children for and I met my friend Imelda. She was very kind and welcoming and asked if she could pray for me. When she prayed for me I felt seen in a way I had not been seen before and cried. Since then I have felt a gentle pull to welcome Jesus into my heart and be here at the church. It felt like a door had been opened for me that I did not know was available to me and all I had to do was walk through it. God is moving and working in my life and I am grateful for the life I live and those I get to spend it with. I am being baptized to represent my devotion to God and as a reminder to myself that He has always been with me.”
