Meet our new Spiritual Formation Director: Josh Knight
As many of you remember, about a year ago we announced that we would be sending our Discipleship Pastor, Keith Cabral, to plant a church in Pawtucket. Since then, we have been praying for God to provide just the right person to lead in this critical area of ministry. While exploring several possibilities, we patiently waited on God and trusted Him to provide. For almost three months, we have been exploring and interviewing a lead candidate. We asked Jared to share how God has answered our prayers and met our need.
Josh Knight is joining the BP Staff as Spiritual Formation Director
Josh and I have known each other for over 25 years, going all the way back to the early years of high school. We grew up in the same town, played football on the same team, and were spiritually formed within the same youth group. We went to college together for a year, served as groomsmen in each other’s weddings, and have maintained a close friendship over the years. In addition to being one of my closest friends, he has been one of the greatest influences on my faith throughout my life.
But this addition to BP’s staff is so much more than bringing a friend onto the team. Josh has served in full-time pastoral ministry for over 15 years in Chicago and Greater Salt Lake City. Most recently, he served as the Lead Pastor of a church he helped re-plant almost 10 years ago. His gifts of leadership and preaching that he has developed in that role will be a tremendous blessing to the BridgePointe family. His wisdom, experience, and passion for spiritual formation are what led him to this specific role at BridgePointe.
If spiritual formation is a new term for you, Josh describes it simply as the process of becoming more like Jesus, which should be the goal of every disciple. To a certain degree, it is synonymous with discipleship. Spiritual formation is the outcome and discipleship is the process. Josh is eager to provide leadership and direction for many aspects of BridgePointe that will work together to help people become more like Jesus, especially providing support and development for our small groups and their amazing leaders.
Josh’s Family Will Move to RI in June
Josh and Desiree have been married for 17 years and have two boys, Winston (11) and Haddon (almost 8). Their family is preparing for a move across the country after the boys finish school at the end of May. Please be praying for Josh and Desiree as they manage the details of selling their home, moving their possessions, and finding housing in Rhode Island. And when they arrive, you can help us welcome them and make Lil’ Rhody feel a little more like home.
Before then, Josh is excited to get started and will be officially joining the BridgePointe Staff Team on April 28 in a hybrid-remote capacity. His first Sunday with us will be May 4. We are working through details of dinner events in May that will provide an opportunity for small group leaders to connect with Josh. If you’re a group leader, thank you for faithfully loving and leading your people over the last year. We are so excited for what this means for you. Stay tuned for more details!
