I have struggled with my relationship with Christ for many years, wrestling with doubts and insecurities about myself and my relationship with the Lord. Over the past year, I have been renewing my relationship with Him. As I turn a new leaf in my life, I am committing myself to Him through the act of baptism and accepting the "new life" I have in Him as my next best step forward.

Today I stand here very grateful, excited and nervous as I obey Jesus through baptism. I've sat through numerous sermons where I've prayed the sinner's prayer and accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, each time being excited to do so. I've struggled with the concept of baptism because I felt I needed to be perfect before, and even more so afterwards. However, over the last year, I have learned that nothing I could do would make God love me any less. Salvation has been given to me as a gift, and by grace, through faith, I receive it. I know I am a sinner. I know Jesus died for my sins, so I can have eternal life. I know my life is in His hands, and I desire to have his will in my life. I pray that I will seek Him daily and learn His word, for the walk of a Christian man is not easy. I rely on Him for wisdom and strength to help me to be the best husband, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend that I can be. I would like to thank my parents for raising me in a Christian home, thank my grandparents and many aunts and uncles for their faith and good example, as well as the pastors that have taught me and guided me through the years.

I first came to BridgePointe about 3 months ago after meeting a lovely couple while at a study session with some friends. My friend informed me that his parents were inside discussing the bible with friends. Always looking forward to fellowship with Christians, I put my books down and went inside to say hello. This is when I first met Paddy and Ray. They received me with joy and happiness and I could tell there was something special about them. The fruits of the Spirit that emanated from them prompted me to ask where they attend church. They shared BridgePointe with me, and a few weeks later, I walked through these doors. Coming here was like a breath of fresh air. I've been a Christian for about 20 years, but came from a church that was more technical than active. One important thing my old church taught me is the two words used in Greek for knowledge in the New Testament:  Gnosis and Epignosis. Gnosis is the academic knowledge; Epignosis is knowledge that is fully realized and applied. It's not simply knowing what love is, but acting it out and actually showing love. I believe I have found that Epignosis knowledge here at BridgePointe and the love that bears fruit from it.

Getting baptized today signifies an outward expression of my faith to the visible as well as invisible realm. I am making a public declaration that here I stand as a sinner, saved by death, burial and resurrection of our Lord and Messiah. Thank you all for your prayers, because I Am One!

Before making this commitment to follow Jesus, I was lost, afraid and felt that I never knew what to expect in life. I decided to begin to pursue a relationship with Jesus because I wanted to change my life – I want to live for God and no longer live a life of sin.

By committing to Jesus through baptism, He will wash away all of my sins and I feel like I will have a new start. What I am most excited about as I enter this new life is that I am able to start over, on the right path in life.

I would like to thank my family, the church, and everyone who has been praying for me.
