Student Baptism: Audrey's Story
Audrey’s Baptism Story
If you asked me when the first time I went to church was, I wouldn’t remember. I’ve been going to church since I was little. I don’t remember it too much, just the big ideas: God loves you, He died for your sins, and some of the popular Bible stories. I never really got into my faith. I would look at church and think of friends and communion. I never thought of church as a safe place where you can learn about God and His Word. It wasn’t until my family made a big decision and decided to come to BridgePointe that I really started understanding it more. I learned about Student Group where I could go play fun games and learn more about God. I was hesitant at first to go but my mom and stepdad insisted my sister and I give it a try. At first, I didn’t have a lot of connections there. No one would talk to me and it felt like a chore to go. I kept going and eventually, I made lots of friends. I began to enjoy it more and learn more about Jesus. Everyone made me feel really welcomed there. One of the leaders, Shannon, would always greet me and make me feel like I mattered whenever I would go. I went to the Student Group lock-in which was where we stayed the whole night in the building. There I met Bailey. She knew my name and made me feel really welcomed as I switched to high school this year. She became my small group leader and really helped me to understand God and truly want him in my life. That’s why I wanted Bailey and Shannon to baptize me today. About a month ago I went to CIY camp. Everyone had an awesome time, at least I know I did. The last day we were worshipping Jesus and it just clicked that I want to commit my life to Jesus through baptism. I can't wait to grow in my faith even more as I get older.
